ADVANCED CHINESE COURSES - LEVELS 5 & 6
LEVEL 5
Target audience: advanced students and HSK 4 proficiency test achievers
Medium of instruction: Chinese
Duration: 45-60 hours (1.5 or 2 hours per session)
Course Outline:
Students identify another few hundred Chinese characters. They read about different topics covering the news and express clearly their opinion on a variety of topics. They read and write in Chinese without the use of pinyin and English
At this level, students easily understand any conversation in Chinese. They learn 150 to 250 Chinese idioms and commons sayings through traditional short stories. They compose short sentences and write simple feature writings in Mandarin. Most Chinese novels are no mystery anymore, students understanding 65-85% of them.
Students are virtually immerged into Chinese language and understand the cultural differences and the Chinese way of life. It is a solid fondation in Mandarin for anyone planning a long stay in China or Taiwan, or preparing for post-secondary studies in a Chinese school or faculty.
After this level, participants are ready for a Chinese Language Proficiency – HSK 5 Test.
LEVEL 6
Target audience: advanced students and HSK 4 proficiency test achievers
Medium of instruction: Chinese
Duration: 60-80 hours (1.5 or 2 hours per session)
Course Outline:
This is the last level available for HSK Chinese studies and certificates. It is an equivalent to a bachelor degree in Chinese studies as a foreign language.
Once it is achieved, students should master at least 5000 commonly used words. They should be able to write articles of about 400 characters in about 30 minutes.
At this level, students are more than fluent in Chinese: They actually master the language enough to share contents and topics on media platforms. They read Chinese novels, newspapers, essays and magazines and they articulate ideas in writing with no much difficulty.
After this level, you are ready for a standard Chinese Language Proficiency - HSK 6 Test.
